The Cadet Band (6th Grade) & Beginning Band (5th Grade) concert is this THURSDAY, December 13 at 6:30 in the gym at BPMS. Band students need to wear their blue band shirt and jeans. Cadet Band needs to meet in the band room by 6:00pm to warm up. Beginning Band needs to meet at 5:30pm in the gym (put your cases and coats in the cafeteria beforehand). Our concert should not last more than 45 minutes. We have all worked hard this year to insure a quality performance. Attendance is required of each band member. If your child becomes ill before the concert, PLEASE contact us immediately. Each child plays an important part in the ensemble.
If you ordered any poinsettias, they will be used to decorate during the 6:30pm concert and then can be picked up immediately following the concert from the Band Boosters. IF THE WEATHER IS COLD THAT NIGHT, please warm up your car first. These are stunningly beautiful plants but do not tolerate the cold. Please let us know if you have any questions! This summer we will be offering a multi-district summer band program for all students currently involved in the Beach Park and, North Prairie Band Programs. Summer band is a good opportunity for students to enhance their musical training. This is an opportunity to build on what they’ve learned over the school year and to keep them musically active. It is also a great opportunity for students to receive much more individualized attention than they receive during the school year, at a fraction of the cost of private lessons.
In an attempt to work around the holiday and various other camps, we are offering TWO sessions this summer. The FIRST session will be from June 18 - June 28. The SECOND session will be from July 9 - July 19. All students enrolled will receive TWO 1-hour small group lessons per week. We will work on music fundamentals and small group ensemble playing. Both sessions will culminate in a performance scheduled at Rolling Hills Manor nursing home on Friday, July 20 at 9:45 AM. The cost for each two-week session will be $30.00 per student per session, or $50 for BOTH sessions. We do not pro-rate fees for partial sessions. NO BUS SERVICE IS PROVIDED. PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTATION. If you are interested in the program, please fill out the permission form and return it with the $50.00 fee by Friday, May 25, 2018. (Ask your band director for a permission form!) We certainly hope that your child will be able to take advantage of this program. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your home school’s band director. No refunds will be given after May 25, 2018. Please contact us if you have any questions! We look forward to seeing you this summer. On Thursday, January 25, 2018 all of our 6th-8th grade band and choir students (and some 5th grade band students as well!) performed at our 8th Annual Spaghetti Dinner held at Beach Park Middle School. Parents, families, community members, and more were invited to come and enjoy delicious spaghetti, salad, desserts, and live entertainment from our student musicians. We are very proud of our band students for such great performances! We also wish to send a HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers for helping to make the 8th Annual Spaghetti Dinner an amazing success! Thanks to parents/students/teachers/community members/band boosters who cooked, served, set up, cleaned up, took pictures, took tickets, sold tickets, and supported us by attending the event. We are proud of our strong band and choir community here in Beach Park that can make awesome events like this happen every year! Check out our Facebook Band Page to see photos and videos from this great event! https://www.facebook.com/bpd3band/ (Thank you to photographer Gibbie Buchholtz for the photos!) Welcome to our student teacher, Mr. Madi Cardenas! He is a Music Education student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He will be teaching with us here at BPMS and also with Mr. Kazmi and the high school band at Zion-Benton. Mr. Cardenas plays bassoon and is a member of the North Suburban Wind Ensemble. Mr. Cardenas is originally from Mundelein, IL. If you see Mr. Cardenas around, please be sure to say hello and welcome! He will be with us until the end of the semester in June.
